Christian Science
is a religious faith emphasizing Christian healing as proof of the supremacy of
spiritual over physical power. Based on the life and teachings of Jesus and of
the prophets and seers in the Bible, it was discovered by Mary Baker Eddy in
1866 through a transformative experience and a healing from a severe
accident. Its basic tenet is that God is All-in-all and that He has created the
universe in His own image and likeness, that is, spiritual, whole and free. Mrs.
Eddy maintained that this divine perfection can be realized and known by
every sincere seeker for truth.
The First Church of Christ, Scientist
in Boston Massachusetts was founded in 1879 to help revive the Christianity
which Christ Jesus taught and to relieve the sufferings of humanity through
reliable, scientific prayer. Its world-wide members base their daily practice on
a study of the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, the
primary work by Mrs. Eddy. The ideas in this book are timeless and universal
and have brought hope, comfort, and health to millions since it was first
published in 1875.
